Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society, is the only honor society for college and university students of government in the United States. At present, there are 621 Pi Sigma Alpha chapters on campuses across the country. Pi Sigma Alpha is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies.

The society functions at the national level, sponsoring programs and events of value to the profession and teaching of political science. Each chapter is encouraged to provide
a framework for enriching the exposure of its members and the wider university community to the study of government and issues of public concern.

This year, through the auspices of Dr. James Humphreys, Professor of History, Dr. Paul Mego, Associate Professor of Political Science, and Academic Dean Trevor Morris, the newest chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha was installed on the campus of Lambuth University, with nine charter members inducted on February 8, 2008.

As part of the induction ceremony, Senator Lowe Finney traveled from Nashville to address the inductees and audience. In his talk, Senator Finney cited the excellence of the Lambuth Political Science program through his contact with both graduates and current students in the program.

Lambuth students have presented research at both state and local professional conferences. Political Science at Lambuth has prepared students for graduate school (Johns Hopkins, University of Memphis, George Washington University), the Peace Corps, national and international non-governmental organizations, journalism, business, and the military.
