Lambuth University School of Business Majors Score in Top Five Percent PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 12 June 2008 21:22

The Lambuth University School of Business and Economics Spring and Summer Graduating Seniors (as a group) recently scored in the top five percentile on the nationally normed Major Field Achievement Test that was developed and is administered by the Educational Test Service (ETS). More than 400 colleges and universities use this test as a benchmark of how their graduating seniors compare to those of other schools. In this age of accountability, the Lambuth University School of Business and Economics has established itself as one of the premier Business Schools in the nation. Last year’s graduating seniors also scored in the top five percentile and Lambuth’s Graduating Business Seniors have scored in the top ten percentile six times in the last seven years.

Dr. Wilburn Lane, Head of the School of Business and Economics, contributes the school’s success to its outstanding faculty, unique curriculum and motivated students. Two thirds of the full-time faculty in the School of Business and Economics have been recognized with university-wide outstanding teaching awards.

“We have a tremendous teaching faculty in the School of Business and Economics,” said Dr. Lane. “Over the past five years, I have had the opportunity to chair and serve on numerous evaluation teams for other business schools that were seeking national accreditation. Many of these schools have been excellent schools, but I always come back to Lambuth more appreciative of the faculty we have in the School of Business and Economics. You do not always appreciate what you have until you compare it with others. Lambuth’s School of Business and Economics students are truly blessed to be learning from outstanding teachers who really care about their students and their success.”

Several years ago Lambuth’s School of Business and Economics adopted the slogan “Where Theory Meets the Real World.” Its curriculum is designed to give its students as many opportunities as possible to utilize the theories they learn in class in a real world situation. Whether it is “Adopting a Retailer” in Principles of Retailing, doing a “Security Analysis” in Financial Management or actually “preparing taxes and filing them” as part of an accounting class, the School of Business Majors not only learn theory, they practice it in real world situations.

“The willingness of faculty to take the learning experience beyond theory to really practicing what you are learning gives our students a tremendous competitive edge,” said Dr. Lane. “When students see how excited faculty are about what they are teaching, the students cannot help but become motivated. I am always amazed when I use the word taxes and see our accounting professor’s eyes light up. Students feed off of this enthusiasm, and they really try harder. They are motivated to do the very best they can. You can have the best teachers and the best curriculum, but you have to have students who want to achieve the success in the School of Business and Economics. We are very blessed to have such motivated students,” said Dr. Lane.
